Production welding

Repeatable, on purpose.

Subassemblies are built in their own fixtures, then brought together in a final fixture. Distortion stays down. The next piece matches the last.

StateFab has run a quality manual since September 1997. Checking fixtures are built for the job, not borrowed from the last one. The floor includes managers, fixture builders, certified welders, and machine operators — more than 50 people.

The same process covers a single prototype and a production run past a thousand pieces, from about 5 pounds to about 5,000. Work also goes out for government programs, robotic systems, construction, and material handling when the print calls for welded steel held to a fixture.
